Soundtrack Wanted

For inspirational purposes I want to put together a soundtrack for my latest WIP (also referred to as the Sleeping Beauty Book — thank goodness it only had to sleep for 10 years in the drawer instead of 100 years! *g*) and need somewhat melancholic songs à la “Fields of Gold” by Sting

or “When I touch you like this” by Meat Loaf.

Any ideas?

OK, not sure if this is exactly what you’re looking for, but here are two bittersweet songs in Spanish. The first is José Agustín Goytisolo’s poem Palabras para Julia, sung by Paco Ibañez and the second is Joan Manuel Serrat singing part of Antonio Machado’s Cantares.

Or, since I think you were writing about Paris, a song about possibly tragic love, in French. It’s Jacques Prévert’s poem Barbara, but I’m not sure who’s singing it.

I’ll admit that my opinion of those three may be shaped by the words as much as by the sound of the music.

Or, orchestral rather than sung, how about Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante defunte? And I find this part of Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez even more melancholy.
